Guardians Of The Deer

In 1824 red deer in the South West of Britain were virtually extinct when the Stag Hounds were formed to protect around 25 survivors from firearms, and properly manage them. This has been one of the great species management success stories. The only similarity between the stag hound and the wolf is in scenting ability and endurance. Staghounds bring the carefully selected stag or hind to bay, where it is shot in the head. They do not attack the deer.
